The Internet was thought up by the US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency,or (DARPA)for short. DARPA wanted to develop a means of communication that would allow networked computers to 'talk' to each other across different platforms and networks so that in the event of a catastrophe such as war, they could carry on communicating!
